In October 2015, UCF announced a residency consortium with HCA Healthcare's North Florida Division, providing more than 600 residency and fellowship opportunities in greater Orlando, Gainesville, Ocala and Pensacola. There are now 25 residency and fellowship programs approved by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in the consortium.
When it opens in 2020, UCF Lake Nona Medical Center will play a vital role in educating the providers of tomorrow. The hospital is designed to accommodate students, with education spaces throughout the facility, and will educate many types of learners including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, medical technologists and health administrators.
In addition to providing quality patient care, UCF Lake Nona Medical Center is committed to advancing innovative research. In support of this commitment, HCA Healthcare has pledged $3 million to fund the HCA Healthcare Endowed Eminent Scholar Chair in Oncology. This endowment will provide funding for UCF to hire a nationally recognized academic expert in cancer research.
